Hi, I’m Shawn Mulcahy. I’m an award-winning freelance reporter based in Chicago, IL, equally adept at breaking news and crafting long-form investigative stories.
I’ve reported on everything from the impacts of covid-19 on nursing homes, to voting rights in the Cook County Jail, to federal lobbying efforts on cannabis.
My work has appeared in outlets including The Washington Post and Cannabis Wire.
I was previously a reporter, producer and host for WFSU Public Media in Tallahassee, Florida, where I covered state and local government. During my two years at the NPR member station, I reported on multiple high-profile campaigns, the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the U.S. and two legislative sessions.
I’m pursuing a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where I’m specializing in social justice and investigative reporting. I graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University in May 2019 with majors in public relations and political science.
