Hi, I’m Shawn Mulcahy. I’m an award-winning freelance reporter based in Chicago, IL, equally adept at breaking news and crafting long-form enterprise stories.
I’ve reported on everything from the impacts of COVID-19 on nursing homes, to high-profile U.S. Senate races, to voting rights in the Cook County Jail, to federal lobbying efforts on cannabis.
My work has appeared in outlets including The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Seattle Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Anchorage Daily News, Stars and Stripes and Cannabis Wire.
I previously covered the coronavirus pandemic for The Texas Tribune. Before that, I reported on state government for public radio station WFSU in Tallahassee, Florida.
In December 2020, I graduated with my master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where I specialized in social justice and investigative reporting. I graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University in May 2019 with majors in public relations and political science.
