Shawn Mulcahy is a freelance reporter based in Chicago, IL. He writes about politics, health care, voting rights, criminal justice and cannabis policy.

Mulcahy currently reports on state politics for The Texas Tribune. Before that, he covered state government for WFSU, the public radio station in Tallahassee, Florida.
Mulcahy graduated with his master’s degree in December 2020 from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where he specialized in social justice and investigative reporting. He also holds an undergraduate degree in political science and public relations from Florida State University.
