About

Hi, I’m Shawn Mulcahy. I’m an award-winning freelance reporter based in Chicago, IL, equally adept at breaking news and crafting long-form enterprise stories.

I’ve reported on everything from the impacts of covid-19 on nursing homes, to high profile U.S. Senate races, to voting rights in the Cook County Jail, to federal lobbying efforts on cannabis.

My work has appeared in outlets including The Washington Post, The Guardian and Cannabis Wire.

I’m currently reporting on the coronavirus in Texas for The Texas Tribune. Before that, I worked for two years at WFSU Public Media. I’ve reported on multiple statewide campaigns, the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the U.S. and two legislative sessions.

I’m recently graduated with my master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where I’m specialized in social justice and investigative reporting. I graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University in May 2019 with majors in public relations and political science.
